Sustainable Golf Course Architect

Meet Kari Haug

Kari Haug is one of the few female golf course architects in the world, blending eco-sensitive, sustainable design with a deep focus on improving playability for women and seniors. A former collegiate golfer with experience in both competitive and casual play, she brings a unique perspective shaped by research, published work, and international study of classic courses across the UK. Her design approach combines hand drawings, 3D renderings, and strategic vision to create courses that balance history, beauty, and playability for all skill levels. Passionate about the game and its community, Kari’s work reflects her dedication to preserving golf’s heritage while making it more inclusive and accessible.

Kari Haug Planning and Design, Inc. is a WBENC-certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE), making it an ideal partner for projects with federal funding, corporate diversity spend goals, or prime contractors aiming to meet diversity percentage requirements. In addition to national WBENC certification—which verifies that a business is at least 51% owned, controlled, operated, and managed by women—the firm also holds multiple Minnesota-based certifications, including CERT (WBE/SBE), TMP (City of Minneapolis/Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board), TGB (State of Minnesota), and Mn-UCP DBE. Recognized by more than 1,000 corporations, leading brands, and numerous government entities, the WBENC standard allows Kari Haug Planning and Design, Inc. to proudly display the Women Owned logo, signifying its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and excellence.
